Bio

Jessica is a Jazz saxophonist and educator, currently living in London having just completed her Masters Degree form the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (2019 - 2021) with Distinction.

Prior to this, Jessica achieved a First Class Honours Degree from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where she had the opportunity to study with some of the UK's leading jazz musicians. This included ECM recording artist Iain Ballamy, Geoff Simkins, Huw Warren, James Maddren and Alex Merritt. This tutoring helped shape Jessica's musical vocabulary and allowed her to perform at a variety of prestigious music events across the UK and Europe, including the London Jazz Festival, Cork Jazz Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival and Langau Jazz Nights Festival in Switzerland.

Jessica is set to release her debut EP, 'Flung Out Of Space' in January 2022.

Jessica plays a Selmer MK VI Alto Saxophone, on a Retro Revival mouthpiece, and uses Rico Jazz Select reeds. Jessica plays on a Yanagisawa Soprano Saxophone, with a Vandoren V16 mouthpiece, and uses Boston Sax Shop reeds.

Educator

After graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2015, Jessica worked as an educator for Music for Bedford Borough. As Wider Opportunities Project Leader, Jessica amassed a wealth of experience teaching instruments in a whole class setting, organising large scale concerts, managing continuation schemes, developing pedagogy, and arranging for group ensembles. Alongside her work with Music for Bedford Borough, Jessica also sat on the board of directors for the Bedford Music Co-opertive, teaching one to one and smaller group lessons on the saxophone and guitar.

The highlight of Jessica's teaching portfolio has been her continued involvement in Open Orchestras, a project which addresses the lack of ensemble musical provision in SEN schools. With the support of Music for Bedford Borough, Jessica has been working with Open Orchestras at an SEN school in Bedford to create their first school orchestra. The enthusiasm of both the students and staff have ignited a love of SEN teaching which Jessica pursues alongside her performance schedule.

Jessica is looking forward to joining the music department at North Bridge House Prep School, Camden from April 2022.
